Cecilia is a biologist from the University of Costa Rica and PhD. in Biomedical Sciences from The University of Texas-Health Science Center at Houston-MD Anderson Cancer Center, US.

Cecilia has more than 30 years of experience in teaching Biochemistry at the Medical School of the University of Costa Rica and researching in the field of toxins and venoms and the mechanisms of cell death induced by drugs, at the Instituto Clodomiro Picado.

She has been a part of 50 publications in international journals such as Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology, Toxicon, Blood, Natural Products Research, Experimental and Molecular Pathology and others.

Her last investigations focused on the study of toxins isolated from the venom of several species of scorpions of Costa Rica and Caribbean lionfish.
